Implant Restoration Q & A

What are implant restorations?

Dental implants are a restorative dental procedure that replaces a single tooth, several teeth, or all of your missing teeth, with prosthetic teeth. Implants include a root and a tooth, just like your natural teeth. Implant restorations become a permanent part of your mouth so you can eat your favorite foods, speak naturally, and prevent future bone loss and other oral diseases.

Dental implant “roots” are made from a titanium screw that anchors into your jawbone. This titanium anchor fuses to your jawbone in a process called osseointegration. The visible tooth part of your implant, or the crown, is typically made of porcelain — a translucent material that reflects light and closely matches the shape and color of your natural teeth.

What are the advantages of dental implants?

When it comes to replacing missing teeth, dental implants have many advantages, including:

  • Improved aesthetics
  • Improved function
  • Improved speech
  • Comfortable replacement for natural teeth
  • Highly functional like natural teeth
  • Strong and durable
  • Improved oral health
  • Easy to care for

Since implants become a permanent part of your mouth, you simply brush and floss them like you would your natural teeth. And as an added advantage, implants cannot get cavities since they’re not susceptible to tooth decay. They may even help your gums stay healthy, as long as you brush and floss after eating and maintain good oral hygiene.

What if I’ve lost all my natural teeth?

Implant restorations replace each individual tooth, but if you are missing all or most of your natural teeth, the dentists at Goldbaum & Rosenberg Dentistry also offer the convenience of the All-on-4® treatment concept. With this restorative solution, you get all your upper teeth or all your lower teeth secured in place with just four dental implants each.

Unlike traditional dentures, the All-on-4 treatment concept fits securely in your mouth using the implants as anchors. You don’t remove them, instead, they are a permanent part of your mouth just like individual dental implants.

Whether you’re missing one tooth, several, or all of them, implant restorations provide a permanent, aesthetically pleasing replacement method so you can enjoy better oral health and renewed self-confidence.
